Rose’s Quilt
As we get older our lives are analogous to a handmade quilt, each segment representative of a memory, event, celebration or family gathering. Before many of us knew Rose our life segments, or quilts, consisted of being consumed with the mundane facets of life… going to work, running errands and being too busy to enjoy that which is important in life, and that is the gift Rose has given us…
It has no cost yet is priceless, and cannot be placed in a box and gift wrapped, yet it is opened each day… the gift of color.
Rose has changed our black and white lives and has given them wonderful hues. She has taught us to enjoy the warm lavenders of a hydrangea plant, the vibrant yellows of moonbeam flowers and the aroma of lilacs in full bloom. Rose has given us the aquamarine colors of the ocean, the warmth of the fawn colored sand beneath our feet, the wonder of the vast turquoise sky and the comfort of the bright golden sun as each new day reveals itself.
And so you see her life’s quilt is far more colorful than yours or mine, and although not complete is filled with more warmth, compassion, and memories than most people. And yes, although it contains the vibrant hues of her gardens and the serene colors of the beach, the center of Rose’s “life” quilt is reserved for family and friends, for that is where the rich redness of her heart lived.
Yes, life will be forever changed without Rose, but it is also forever changed because of her. She has made us look at life in a different way… through “Rose colored glasses” where the simplicities of life are appreciated and the colors of life are realized.
And so my dear friend Rose we thank you for turning our black and white world into vivid colors, and we thank you for not allowing us to take for granted the beauty of life that surrounds us.
We love you and will miss you dearly. May you rest in peace and continue to watch over us as we nurture the seeds you have planted and help each other complete your beautifully colored life’s quilt. I love you my friend.
