Welcome friends & family ---thank you all for coming & sharing in our hopes & dreams. Your support strengthens our resolve and gives us hope!
LI OCEANS is an organization with a mission toward providing and provoking hope. Our group is made up of women living with Ovarian & Gynecological cancers, from the newly diagnosed to the long-term survivor. Our mission is to be the voice by promoting education; research, advocacy and awareness with hope to save the lives of our mothers, sisters, daughters, friends & neighbors.
Cancer is in deed generational, an unfortunate tapestry in the lineage of many families. "There's a saying that genetics load the gun, but it's the environment that pulls the trigger. Within this vast cosmic blueprint of time & space—in blows the wind of change—together we are firing back!!! Your support helps us to load the canons.
Cancer beckons, Last year, more than 80,000 women in the US received an unexpected diagnosis: cancer of a reproductive organ. This means that on average, one woman in the United States is diagnosed with gynecologic cancer every seven minutes -- that’s more than 200 women diagnosed each and every day. Over 16,000 women will die from Ovarian Cancer this year alone, another 20,000 will be newly diagnosed.
LI OCEANS believes----1 is too many!
Cancer research is crucial because the effects of the disease are so far-reaching. Research is the basis for all cancer breakthroughs, and we must do everything we can to support and nurture that spirit of discovery. If we can reduce the likelihood of having a train wreck- lets do it!!! We know that a women’s chance for survival increases significantly if the disease is detected and treated early. The sad news is most cases of Ovarian Cancer are detected too late.
The good news however is that from the proceeds of last years Gala we are proud to announce together with Dr. Michael Pearl & Stony brook Researchers (aka the Canons for which we load) —we embark upon unlocking the mystery of Ovarian Cancer and begin strides to develop an early detection test so to save lives.
Long Island OCEANS Wave of Hope Award has been established to honor an individual or individuals who have made significant fundamental contributions to Ovarian Cancer. Everyone hopes that something can and will be done to help overcome Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancers, for a special group of people, that hope leads to inspiration.
Like a beacon of hope, tonight we will award two individuals Dr. Michael Pearl & Rep. Steve Israel, in honor of their exceptional contributions to Ovarian & Gynecologic Cancers, they provide guideposts for a hopeful tomorrow.
